Clearbox Recommended IT Requirements

1.0 Clearbox CDE (BIMXtra)

1.1. Hardware requirements

There are no specific hardware requirements for users who will only be using the Clearbox CDE web application as a standalone product.

1.2. Software requirements

  • Microsoft Windows 10 and 11 Professional or Enterprise (64-bit Build)
  • DWFx viewer, such as Autodesk Design Review or similar
  • Web browser,
    • Chromium based browsers officially supported,
    • Other browsers are supported with 'Best Efforts'
  • Microsoft Office - current versions (there may be an additional installation of the Microsoft Office SOAP Type Library v3.0 required which we will assist with)
  • PDF viewer, such as Adobe Acrobat or similar
  • Support for Internet Explorer is now deprecated an error message will warn users if they attempt to open the Clearbox CDE using it

1.3. Email account

Each user must have an unrestricted email account to receive Clearbox CDE system notifications and Clearbox CDE two-step security verification code emails.
For best delivery rate, the email domain matching your Clearbox CDE web URL should be whitelisted. (e.g. @bimxtra.com for https://www.bimxtra.com)

1.4. Internet connection

Recommended dedicated internet connection speed of 10Mbps or better.

 

2.0 Insight

2.1. Software dependencies

  • Microsoft Windows 10 and 11 Professional or Enterprise Editions (currently supported by Microsoft)
  • Current recommended GPU drivers in line with the GPU manufacturer's recommendation

(Insight requires hardware that supports OpenGL 4.5 or 4.6 - please note that AMD do not provide support for OpenGL drivers and subsequently Clearbox do not recommend their graphics cards)


During the installation process, Insight will check for the following items and install if required:

  • Microsoft .NET Framework 4.8
  • Microsoft Visual C++ 2015-2022 Redistributable (x64)

2.2. Local machine user profile requirements

Installation

Insight requires local administrator rights on the PC in order to both:

  • Execute the installation and 
  • Run Insight for the first time

Running the Application

In order to allow Insight to run and update, users require specific read / write access to the following folder:

C:\Program Files\Clearbox       (Including all Sub-folders)

2.3. Internet connection

Recommended dedicated internet connection speed of 10Mbps or better.

2.4. Hardware requirements

Requirements will vary with the projects sizes / demands. Contact Clearbox Ltd for project specific guidance.

3.0 Applications

3.1. Software dependencies

The following authoring tool plugins are available on request and require the appropriate CAD authoring tool to be installed prior to their installation;

  • Combined Clearbox CDE Data and Insight Model Exporters for Autodesk Revit
  • Navisworks Plugin
  • Clearbox CDE & Insight Exporter for Autodesk AutoCAD and Autodesk Civil 3D are available upon request

3.2. Hardware requirements

The authoring tool plugins have no specific hardware requirements. However, as these are to be used in conjunction with CAD authoring tools, please refer to the hardware requirements specific to the relevant authoring tool e.g. Autodesk Revit, Navisworks, AutoCAD Civil 3D etc.

Insight requires hardware that supports OpenGL 4.5 or 4.6 - Please note that AMD do not provide support for OpenGL drivers and subsequently Clearbox do not recommend their graphics cards.

3.3. Software requirements

  • Microsoft Windows 10 and 11 Professional or Enterprise (64-bit Build)
  • Relevant supported and patched authoring tool e.g. Autodesk Revit, Navisworks, AutoCAD Civil 3D for the Clearbox CDE & Insight Exporters etc.

3.4. Local machine user profile requirements

Installation

The authoring tool plugins require administrator rights to execute the installation.

Running the Application

Where users do not have local administrator rights, to allow the plugins to run, they will require specific read / write access to the following folders:

  • Clearbox Add-ins Folder (Required for all Add-ins) (Including all Sub-folders)
    • C:\Program Files\Clearbox
  • Revit Based Plugins (Including all Sub-folders)
    • C:\ProgramData\Autodesk\Revit\Addins Year
  • Navisworks Plugin (Including all Sub-folders)
    • C:\Program Files\Autodesk\Navisworks Manage Year\Plugins
    • C:\Program Files\Autodesk\Navisworks Manage Year\Dependencies
    • C:\Program Files\Autodesk\Navisworks Simulate Year\Plugins
    • C:\Program Files\Autodesk\Navisworks Simulate Year\Dependencies
  • AutoCAD Based Plugins (Including all Sub-folders)
    • C:\Program Files\Autodesk\AutoCAD Year\Plugins\BIMXtra.AutoCAD.Exporter
    • C:\Program Files\Autodesk\AutoCAD Year \Plugins\BIMXtra.AutoCAD.Civil3D.Exporter

3.5. Internet connection

Recommended dedicated internet connection speed of 10Mbps or better.

4.0 Onsite

4.1 Onsite (Android)

4.1.1 Hardware requirements

  • Recommended
    • Android 11, 12 and 13 (please note Android 14 is not yet supported)

4.1.3 Internet connection

Recommended dedicated internet connection speed of 10Mbps or better.



5.0 DMS Client App

5.1. Hardware requirements

The DMS Client Application has no specific hardware requirements.

5.2. Software requirements

  • Microsoft Windows 10 and 11 Professional or Enterprise (64-bit Build)


During the installation process, DMS Client Application will install and check for the following items:

  • Microsoft .NET Framework 4.8 (x86 and x64)

5.3. Local machine user profile requirements

Installation

The DMS Client Application requires administrator rights to execute the installation.

Running the Application

Where users do not have local administrator rights, to run the DMS Client Application, users will require specific read / write access to the following folder:

Clearbox DMS Client App folder:

C:\Program Files\Clearbox\BIMXtra DMS Client (Including all Sub-folders)

5.4. Internet connection

Recommended dedicated internet connection speed of 10Mbps or better.
